Sports
The Friends of Holon Foundation is proud to highlight six Sport Projects that
deserve special attention and support for further development:
Grand Prix rhythmic gymnastics (Project No. SP01) For the 6th time in a row Holon will host the annual International Grand Prix Contest for rhythmic gymnastics. This highly prestigious contest takes place in eight countries and provides access to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. It attracts the top of rhythmic gymnasts from all over the world. Four Israeli gymnasts are expected to participate in the 2007 Grand Prix. Holon is the only city outside Europe hosting the Grand Prix and Holon is determined to preserve this honor. Because of extensive media exposure, the Grand Prix is considered as important promotion of Israel in general and Holon in particular. Further sponsoring and support are needed to maintain our high standards in organizing this event.

Therapeutic Sports Center (Project No. SP02) The Therapeutic Sports Center was established in 1988 to offer physically disabled children and youth specially adjusted training programs to enhance their fitness, social skills and well-being. Current facilities: activity rooms, a small AAT (animal-assisted therapy) cabin, a lawn and a small basketball court. One very important facility is still missing: a hydrotherapeutic swimming pool. For some children hydrotherapy is the one and only beneficial therapy. The ambition to establish a 1 million USD pool needs further support.

Sports Hall (Project No. SP03) Holon has the ambition to establish a new, up to standards Sports Hall in the Peres Park, located next to the eastern entrance of the city. The Sports Hall should be one of the most advanced in Israel and seat an audience of 5000. It aims at all indoor ball-sports, gymnastic sports, martial arts, dance and ballet. Actualizing this project will put Holon in a position to host national and international sport competitions. The new Hall will help to fill up the lack of national infrastructure for major sport events, nowadays a main currency to acquire international respect and prestige.

In an urban environment suitable and safe conditions have to be created. Holon is planning to establish five safe walking trails that are easily accessible from nearly every area in the city. Each trail will be measured and have signboards along the way. Gymnastic instruments will complement the challenge of walking, benches and water tabs will provide the finishing touch.

Biking trails (Project No. SP05) Holon has decided to promote cycling as a mode of fast, cheap and environmental friendly transport as well as a healthy sport activity. The ambition is to establish a network of protected biking trails throughout the city. The first trail will be Shvil HaShalom, the Peace Trail, connecting Peres Park in Holon with the Peres Center for Peace in Tel Aviv.

Climbing wall (Project No. SP06) Holon has the ambition to establish a 22 meter high Climbing Wall offering a great variety of moving and climbing possibilities in Peres Park.
