Education
The Friends of Holon Foundation is proud to highlight six Educational Projects
that deserve special attention and support for further development:
House to Be (Project No. ED01)
The House to Be (Lihyot) is a meeting place for Holocaust survivors from
different communities in Holon and a center that runs educational programs for
teenagers and soldiers. In House to Be Holon’s youth meet with Holocaust
survivors, providing them the opportunity to listen to personal accounts. Four
volumes with stories of approximately 2,000 survivors, all citizens of Holon,
have been published under the title of Lihyot. The publication editor is Tzipi
Kichler, citizen of Holon and born in Bergen-Belsen.
Support is needed to build a two-floor extension of House to Be for classrooms, meeting rooms and offices. The heart of the extension will be a covered inside garden featuring a Memorial Wall. Address: Gilad Street 10. Tel.: 972 3 50 50 085 Please, feel free to contact us and/or support us. Heritage Center (Project No. ED02)
With the Heritage Center in Holon’s Shazar School the dream of School
Principal, Arjeh Blinder, comes to fruition. The Center permanently displays
aspects of daily life in Jewish communities in the Diaspora and their journeys
to Israel. We are shown a wide spectrum of Jewish objects, symbols and rituals
whose details reflect and teach us about the various cultures from which it
originated. A visit to the Heritage Center brings a broader understanding of
the Israeli society with all its different communities, promotes tolerance and
creates a sense of belonging. Each year all of Holon’s 6th grade students come
to visit the Center.

Future goals include opening the Center to the wider community, to establish a meeting hall, to organize tours and workshops and to establish a computerized information center for citizens that want to learn about their history. Address: Kdoshey Kahir 18. Tel.: 972 3 50 34 488. Coexistence Center (Project No. ED03)
The Coexistence Center is established in Holon’s Gordon School to teach school
children about the complexity of Israeli society and to create an awareness of
the need to accept the other. A society of secular and religious people, Jews
and Arabs, Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews, old and new immigrants creates all
kind of disputes and disagreements. These complexities are also expressed in
the society of children and need to be addressed. The Center offers all 5th and
6th Grade Primary School students two days of experiential workshops dealing
with cultural pluralism, Jewish identity, patience and tolerance.
Please, feel free to contact us and/or support us. Strudel Center (Project No. ED04)
The Strudel Center, Holon’s computer center and internet caf?, offers a
variety of computer courses and workshops for youth and adults. These courses
are delivered by a professional team of instructors and include ‘website
building’ and ‘PC Doctors’ for youth as well as ‘PC for beginners’ and
‘Internet’ for adults. Workshops include subjects as ‘digital photography’ and
‘digital graphics’.
Address: Mesilat Haoliem 2. Tel.: 972 3 50 39 043. Please, feel free to contact us and/or support us. Chevrolet Club (Project No. ED05)
The Chevrolet Club is a music club offering a variety of activities, courses,
workshops and performances satisfying the interests and needs of teenagers and
young musicians. A professional rehearsal room supports young musicians to
create new groups; a monthly Young Band Evening allows new bands to present
themselves. Teenagers of the club produce Friday evening music parties and
first-row Israeli musicians perform in the Chevrolet Club. Workshops, courses
for DJ and electronic music and a School for Street Theatre are other
highlights of the Chevrolet Club.

The Friends of Holon Foundation choose the two biggest youth centers in Holon
for further support. The Bungee Center and Lion Gate both empower some 400
children and teenagers through a variety of projects and activity groups,
including dance, arts, sports, first aid, leadership, theatre, story-telling,
self-awareness and community volunteering. The centers are open from Sunday –
Thursday from 16.00 – 20.00. The Bungee Center is located on Chaim Landau 17,
tel.: 972 3 55 35 147. Lion Gate is on Shaar Haarayot 16, tel. 972 3 55 63 931.
Please, feel free to contact us and/or support us. Computers in the Kindergarden (Project No. ED07)
Holon counts 155 kindergardens (state-run, religious as well as special
education). They serve 4,800 children in the age of 3 – 6. For each
kindergarden a computer is highly desirable, including side-equipment and
internet-connection. Computers will help to decrease the digital gap for
children that do not have a computer at home and upgrade the educational
environment of the kindergarden. The teachers will get the possibility to
communicate on-line and to establish a teachers-forum.
